More than five blocks are closed down for food vendors, music, and entertainment. There are at least 30 participating restaurants and a variety of cuisines. Some restaurants set up in the street, while others create makeshift bars so you can easily get a cocktail of your choice. If you enjoy food, be sure to visit Puerto Rico around this festival.

At the end of June you can’t miss Carnival in Rio Grande. Rio Grande is the “city of El Yunque” and each year they have a four day festival to celebrate Carnaval Ciudad de El Yunque. This festival is jammed packed with food, music, parades, carnival rides, and fireworks. It is one of the Puerto Rico festivals you do not want to miss. The first few days are opening ceremonies where you can expect to see live music and shows, and amusement rides. By the end of the week, you can attend the 10k race and parade. If you can only attend one day of this four day Puerto Rican festival, be sure to attend on Sunday, the last day. Sunday is considered the day of Carnival, where you can watch a variety of parades, see loud costumes, and hear cultured music. If you can’t attend this Puerto Rican festival at the end of June/ early July, try experiencing the “set up” for the event.  By mid- June the town begins to set up colorful decorations, amusement rides, and floats.

As a result, the Department of Homeland Security has put together information for the United States Customs and Border Protection to ensure companies and people  are safely importing their car. Knowing import safety prior to your car shipment will give you a peace of mind. At customs, you will need to provide a Bill of Lading, registration, and any other documents connecting to your car. Furthermore, in order to prevent the transporting of foreign soil, it is best that you completely wash the exterior of your car prior to shipment. Most importantly, for your own import safety, and to ensure you are safely importing your car, it is highly recommended you clean out the contents of your car. This will greatly reduce the risk of loss or stolen property during transport and/or when your car gets to the loading and unloading docks. Lastly, get familiar with EPA Standard Form 3520-1. This form is required by the United States Customs and Border Protections for the importation of almost all cars such as passenger vehicles and highway motorcycles. This required form is to confirm all vehicles meet the air pollution emissions standards and requirements. However, it is important to note that this form is not required if you are importing your car directly from a manufacturer since it is a new vehicle.

There are some rules of the road that are the same as the United States such as driving on the right side of the road and requiring every passenger to wear a seatbelt. The Difference Between Single, Double, Triple, Four Digit Autopistas/Highways:

Single- digit roads are considered to be “main” highways and you can expect a traffic light every couple of hours. Double- digit roads are considered to be “newer” highways and are known for having tolls. Triple- digit highways are smaller roads and are considered to be “country” roads. You will most likely not explore four- digit roads. These roads are usually one lane and are advised for people who know where they are going.

Rules of the Road That You Can Expect the Locals to Not Follow:

• Although it is law to use blinkers to signal switching of lanes, many people don’t use blinders when turning or changing lanes.

• Puerto Rico has a “no pass on the right” rule, but you can expect that the locals will pass in any lane. Like us, usually the left lane is the fast lane, and passing is done on the right. However, you can expect that the locals will drive slow or fast in any lane that they want.

• If a local misses a turn, you can expect that they won’t continue on their path in order to find a way to turn around. Instead, they will stop suddenly and back up in order to get to their missed turn or exit that they wanted.

If you have any rules of the road questions once you’re in Puerto Rico, you could always stop and ask a police officer, as they are local in patrolling. However, if you are driving in front or next to one, don’t freak out when you see the patrol car blue lights on. The police drive around all the time with blue lights on. So don’t panic unless you hear sirens.
